The Alexandra Gown

What do you wear to marry the Royal partner of your dreams?  This gown.

Direct from our atelier, The “Alexandra” is an unforgettable choice for a bride who truly appreciates classic fashion lines for the most special of days. Made with a bouquet of silks and laces, this gown can be worn for a wedding or commitment ceremony, or for a Vintage/Victorian Ball . Made to be beautiful in natural light or evening, the harmony of the different textures will show the layers to advantage. Like the Atelier of Charles Worth, she’s completely hand-sewn, except for the foundation seams.

Hand-set silk dupioni pleats that have been micro-hemmed with our antique sewing machines (like Alexandra’s was) are sewn at the hem, then the silk organza pleating with the double satin Mokuba ribbon stripes , then topped with a ruche of whisper-light English Net, cut into scallops with our antique hand-crank pinking machines. The tiny vertical pleats are completely undersewn (no top stitching) as is the hand cut cotton core soutache lace, which also has the tiniest of gold threads through it, just delicate enough to reflect the light.

The pleating and net continues around the train, which has an under-structure of taffeta petticoat ruffles for that amazing rustle. The silk never touches the ground, this gown (like all of ours) glides on top of the petticoat, and are tied together invisibly, so movement is effortless.

The bodice has two different styles, this one shown is in an imported  Silk Lampas from the Schumacher looms in France. It has a front overlay of vintage Chantilly Lace appliqued with some of the cotton core gold soutache for some depth. Silk covered buttons and a ruche of English Net disguise a hidden hook and bar closure for a perfect front line. The sleeves on this bodice are from silk organza, with a matching flounce of the same Chantilly lace and vintage (millinery quality, of course) French Fleurs are in (removeable) bouquets at the shoulders and arms.

The “Alexandra” is a gown for a discriminating client…it can be ordered in the champagne with ivory as shown, or in white. This gown would also be beautiful in black, red, or softer shades in-between. This model is part of our trunk show and is a Lily Absinthe signed Exclusive.
