Riding Habits



Below are some pictures of various styles of riding habits. Of all the styles of the 19th and early 20th Centuries, the riding habit was one of the most conservative. Originally, riding habits were made by male tailors who adapted existing patterns to the female body. For the most part, riding habits were dark, usually in black, and pretty much were modeled after earlier redingote styles. However, as things move into the early 20th Century, one starts to see some variety to the staid riding habit style.
