At The Movies With Lily Absinthe

We always love a good costume movie or TV show and here are a few of our favorites:

The Age of Innocence– Based on the book of the same name by Edith Wharton, it’s primarily set in the 1870s and is a story of how social conventions often stifled relationships. The movie was made in 1993 The costuming is exquisite and it’s been a constant source of inspiration for us.

Daisy Miller– Based on the book of the same name by Henry James and set in the 1870s, this is a story of the clash of American and European social mores and their consequences. The movie was made in the early 1970s and while there’s some questionable elements, it’s still a nice visual treat.

And for a change of pace, there’s Crimson Peak- Released in 2015, and set in the 1890s, this movie is a mix of gothic horror and romance and is a visual treat for us. Having viewed the costumes in person, this has also been a source of inspiration for us. 🙂
