Eton Jacket Project No. 2 – Part 1

Another Eaton jacket in the works…I’m incorporating more tailoring techniques in this one so we’ll see how it turns out. 🙂

Laying out some of the fashion fabric. The lighting is really poor- the fabric is actually a teal linen.

Chalking out the pieces- The pattern pieces are actually slopers so I have to manually add the seam allowance which in this case is 1/2 inch.

Creating the canvases for the front left and right.

To be continued…

Restoration…

Restoring extant garments requires love and patience. This linen lace jacket had mellowed evenly, so I chose to not lighten it, removed all the old metal hooks, and strengthened weak points with appliquĂ©. I’ll carefully wear it for special occasions only and then put it to bed with its tissue. Don’t you wish we could hear the stories these clothes could tell, like beautiful teas or walks along the Seine? Now to go through my hat collection and find something gorgeous.

In Bath- Looking Forward!

Taken by @timelightphotographic at the Prior Attire event in Bath…this is the weekend that we should be there again. But…you know, pandemic. Looking forward to 2022 and seeing friends in person again!

Looking Forward…

Some nice memories of the last time we were in Bath. We look forward to returning in 2022.  🙂

I actually finished and wore the blush silk gown, probably the last new thing for me for a while because of my wonderful client work…so no more hand sewing in hotel rooms! Taking a sewing break for two days, back to LA (and Angus!) on Monday. We truly want to live here (we’ve looked) and made so many friends. We know we act like over-enthusiastic goofy Americans, but our hearts are genuine, so we just laugh. One more day of Victorian fun, then it’s off to Heathrow…another day of sleep would be nice, too.

Looking Back- Bath

It was only three years but feels like a lifetime ago… we’ll be back! 🙂

WWe had a lovely evening at the Prior Attire Ball, the rooms are exquisite (oh the chandeliers!) and met new friends. There were so many gorgeous gowns and handsome men in white tie or uniform, it was worth all the effort to attend. The sweetest moment was the opportunity to meet in person people I’ve only met and admired online on a few social media platforms. Well done! We’ll be back. Tomorrow is breakfast at the Pump Rooms, in daytime attire.
