The Fifth Annual Tombstone Tour Of Homes Is On For 2018!
We’re happy to announce that one again, we’ll be participating in the Tombstone Tour of Homes. Believe it or not, Tombstone isn’t just a city with a famous gunfight, it’s also known for it’s wonderful Holiday Tour of Homes! This year will be the third year that our No. 11 is included in this lovely event and once again, “The Dressmaker’s Cottage at #11” will be fully decorated for Christmas and will have extra surprises of antique machines, part of our antique clothing museum, some new period furniture pieces and a few sparkly things. Stay tuned for more! 🙂
Dressing The Seasons In Tombstone
We’ve been focusing a bit on color lately and while it may seem a bit excessive, we believe that color is one of the most critical elements in design and thus worthy of constant consideration. In a previous post, we used an example drawn on Spring colors and as a contrast, we’re now presenting some Fall colors as with my 1897 day dress:
For color, we have the following palette:
Here we see a palette with deep color shades of red, brown, and green combined with two neutral colors, black and white.
As for the outfit I’m wearing, it’s late 1890s suit, constructed from a pattern originally published in an 1897 issue of the Delineator. The bodice/jacket is characterized by a short-rise lower profile sleeve cap and narrow lower sleeves. The skirt is a gently curved skirt, constructed with narrow gores. The skirt fabric is an 1890s vintage, new-old stock, silk-wool blend and is almost as light as air (trust me, it’s not heavy at all!).

As you can see, color is an important element and it’s always foremost when we create our designs.
And It’s On…The Holiday Tour Of Homes In Tombstone
Finally it’s on! After working late into the night setting things up and dealing with all manner of last-minute complications, we ready, set, and it’s a go! Off To Tombstone…
With Thanksgiving well behind us, it’s time to look forward to returning to Tombstone to prepare the house for the 4th Annual Tombstone Tour of Homes scheduled for December 2, 2017. Sponsored by Tombstone Forward, a group dedicated to marketing and promoting Tombstone as a destination and the home tour is just one example. We’ve re-arranging furniture and have acquired some “new” pieces (or rather, re-upholstered some old ones 🙂 Stay tuned for more! 🙂
